Q: What makes SeneSerum-C special/unique?

A: #1 SeneSerum-C contains SeneGence’s proprietary SenePlex formula. This alone sets it apart from the competitor serums.

#2 ACTIVE VITAMIN C! Most forms of vitamin C easily decompose to biologically inactive compounds, making it difficult to maintain the concentration needed to achieve visual skin enhancing effects. SeneSerum-C contains beads of stabilized Vitamin C, called C-Beads, to prevent oxidation and maximize the age-fighting potency. Stabilized Vitamin C (in addition to the Vit C found in SenePlex) in the form tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is more stable and less potent than ascorbic acid or other forms of vitamin C.
Vitamin C is essential for healthy skin. Topical application has the propensity for accelerating the antiaging performance through an increase of blood vessel formation (angiogenesis). The vascularization and movement of blood flow to an area starkly increases the cellular processes and availability for accelerated renewal. In addition to being a powerful antioxidant, results indicate that vitamin C enhanced collagen synthesis 3x in human skin fibroblasts.

Technology that encapsulates vitamin C within a layer of inorganic material results in enhanced storage stability. In general, the polarity of the encapsulating material leads to adsorption of the Vitamin C keeping it stable & active till ready to use. It is assumed SeneGence uses technology similar to this in their SeneSerum-C- Efficient Transdermal Penetration and Improved Stability of L-Ascorbic Acid Encapsulated in an Inorganic Nanocapsule (2003).

A wide range of concentrations are found in vitamin C serums, the specific derivative is more important than the absolute amount. The amount is irrelevant if it’s inactive. Products using ascorbic acid derivatives for increasing the rate of skin exfoliation (desquamation) generally contain from about 0.01% to about 99% of the ascorbic acid derivative. Preferably, the composition has a pH in the range from about 6.0 to about 8.0.Β https://patents.google.com/patent/US6184247B1/en

#3 SeneShield. SeneSerum-C contains free radical protection and UV protection. Antioxidants provide protection from free radicals generated by pollutants that can cause the skin to lose its radiance.

#4 Multiple skin-lightening ingredients. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is linked to melanin reduction and has been used to successfully treat and reverse the effects of photodamaged skin in baby boomersΒ http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/…/j.1524-4725.2002.0112…/full
Yeast Extract and naturally occurring derivatives of yeast (genus: Saccharomyces) have been linked to reduction is bagginess and discoloration below the eyes.

SeneSerum-C Ingredients:
Biosaccharide Gum-4- a polysaccharide made by fermenting plants, maize sorbitol, and soya peptone. Used as a moisturizing and skin conditioning agent. It supports anti-aging through the stimulation of loricrin (a major protein component of cells of the epidermis, or outermost layer of skin), sirtuins (a class of proteins that influence cellular processes, like aging and inflammation) and involucrin (a protein component of skin that contributes to cell formation) (Product Knowledge).

Glycerin is a naturally occurring alcohol compound and a component of many lipids. It works as a humectant, meaning it draws moisture to the skin.
Propanediol is sourced from a corn sugar fermentation process and serves as a humectant, solvent, and emulsifier. It is NOT the same propylene glycol. They differ in their molecular structure resulting in a different melting point, boiling point, and density.
Hydroxyethylcellulose – a plant-derived amino acid used as a preservative, emulsifier and binding agent.
Glitter. Just kidding, there is no glitter, its micaΒ https://www.truthinaging.com/ingredients/micaΒ Titanium dioxide is a naturally occurring oxide of titanium, its a well known ingredient in physical sunscreens.
Calcium alginate high absorbent seaweed derivative used as a thickener in food, beverages, and cosmetics.
Gellan Gum and xanthum gum are produced by the bacterial fermentation of sugars, used as a vegan thickening/binding agent in food and cosmetics
Citric acid – found naturally in citrus fruits and is used as a preservative/pH balancer
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate- oil-soluble form of Vitamin C
Biosaccharide Gum-1- a polysaccharide made by fermenting plants. Used as a moisturizing and skin conditioning agent.
Vitis Vinifera (grape juice extract)- a natural preservative that also contains malic acid, which is considered an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) to help exfoliate the top layers of skin, promote moisture restoration and help penetration of other ingredients. Actions that help correct discoloration and improve skin’s texture in general.
Phenoxyethanol- an oily liquid used as a bactericide and topical antiseptic.
Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A) fundamental for increasing skin elasticity and thickening of the epidermis and the dermis. Vitamin A plays an important role in RNA synthesis, known for its cellular renewal properties that speed up exfoliation to reveal younger, plumper skin cells.
DL Panthenol (Provitamin B5)- naturally found in healthy skin and hair known for its moisturizing and regenerating properties
Tocopheryl (and Tocopheryl Acetate) – an anti-oxidant and has been shown to inhibit skin cancer and aid in the healing of the skin.
Yeast Extract- a mixture of flavonoids, sugars, vitamins and amino acids that are hydrating, anti-aging, collagen-producing, and brightening.
Orchis Mascula (Flower Extract) used in the preparation of emollient products. This powerful antioxidant provides free-radical protection, maximum moisturization and is an effective as a sunscreen.
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba Seed Extract)- plant-derived oil that is orderless, an effective moisturizer and absorbs readily.
Sodium Hyaluronate easily penetrates the skin’s surface and is able to retain a relatively large amount of water β€” up to 1,000 its own weight. This means it can penetrate to lower layers of the skin, attract and retain water, and promote nutrient absorption.
Spirulina Maxima Extract – hydrates, protects and softens the skin enhancing the skin’s ability to repair itself.
Arnica montana (Flower Extract) – renowned by herbalists for its ability to heal bruises, sunburns, and blemishes
Camellia sinensis (Leaf Extract)- a powerful antioxidant known for its ability to inhibit the body’s immune suppression and protect against photo-aging and thickening of the epidermis.
Magnesium PCA- naturally occurring mineral with strong absorbent properties
Copper PCA – naturally occurring metal known to improve skin elasticity, firmness and thickness
Zinc PCA- a chemical element that helps moisturize skin and regulate sebum production controlling excess oil
Sodium Chloride – natural sea-salt used as a binding agent.
Fragrance (Parfum)

Product comparison:
SeneSerum C by SeneGence $65/.5oz
SenePlex complex and C-Bead technology
AQ Skin Solutions Active Serum $149/1oz
Contains Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, Vitamin E, phenoxyethanol and plant-derived oils. Does not contain additional botanicals that aid in skin conditioning and healing like Arnica or Camellia (green tea) extract. Also lacks additional hydrating ingredients such as jojoba, sodium hyaluronate.
Paula’s Choice – RESIST Super antioxidant concentrate serum $38/1oz
Recommended for normal to dry skin, no UV protection. Contains tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, Vitamin E and other botanically derived antioxidants. However, the first ingredient is Cyclopentasiloxane which is rated of moderate concern on EWG due to persistence and organ system toxicity. The second ingredient is dimethicone, a silicone-based polymer that has been linked to skin irritation with prolonged use.
